The NEOMED Community Mourns

The NEOMED community mourns the loss of Ernest Jay Wheeler, M.D., Ph.D., who died March 12, 2020, at his home in Lubbock, Texas. He was 80.

In 1975, Dr. Wheeler became an executive associate dean of the institution now known as Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Elisabeth H. Young, M.D. (’85), dean of the College of Medicine, wrote, “Dr. Wheeler was a wonderful man of character, integrity and compassion, who was always available to listen. In the early years of the College of Medicine, he served as an innovator, a trusted and beloved leader, a mentor and advocate for students, and jack-of-all-trades. I have fond memories of his wisdom, warmth, humor, kindness and deep commitment to always serve others. He led a distinguished career, and we are very fortunate for the imprint he left on the College of Medicine.”

We send our condolences to Dr. Wheeler’s family and friends.

Sincerely,

John T. Langell
President
