Upcoming Liebelt-Wheeler Awardee: Dana Peterson

It’s a signature NEOMED event, and always cause for celebration: the Employee Service Awards and Faculty & Staff Recognition Ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, March 31.

This year, in advance of the ceremony, The Pulse is spotlighting some of the award categories and the awardees. (Others are a secret, and will remain so until the event!)

Congratulations to Dana Peterson, Ph.D., associate professor of anatomy and neurobiology, winner of the 2019 Liebelt-Wheeler Award for Faculty Excellence!

The award “honors a faculty member within the consortium who has demonstrated exemplary performance in the areas of teaching, service, professional standing, or patient care.”

Since coming to NEOMED  from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2013, Dr. Peterson has established herself as a champion of students, frequently mentioned as a mentor who consistently goes above and beyond to help them achieve their goals.

The Anatomy Academy, a two-week immersive institute for both students and adults, is a signature NEOMED program under Dr. Peterson’s direction that reaches the broader community.

Dr. Peterson also brought with her to NEOMED an enthusiasm for the national Brain Bee, a program that engages young people to learn about neuroscience. Dr. Peterson built the Brain Bee program in the NEOMED community, and for the first time, the national competition will be held at NEOMED. It is scheduled to take place Friday, March 27, through Sunday, March 29.

Save the date

We’ll learn much more about Dr. Peterson and other honorees at the Faculty and Staff Recognition Ceremony event, so be sure to mark your calendar for March 31 at 2 p.m.

Preceding the ceremony from noon to 1:30 p.m. March 31, employees who have reached milestone years of service will be recognized at a luncheon in the Grand Ballroom. Their supervisors are invited, too.

Watch The Pulse for more details and winners.
