Department of Pharmacy Practice's Scholarship Day will be May 17

Featured speakers include:

Robin Zavod, Ph.D., editor in chief, Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, and professor of pharmaceutical sciences, Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy

Dr. Zavod will present the keynote address, titled “Academic Scholarship: The Past, Present and Future,” and will lead a breakout session on academic writing.

Dr. Zavod has held multiple leadership positions within the American Association of Colleges of Phamracy (AACP; Council of Faculties immediate past-chair, chair, chair-elect) and several leadership positions within the Chemistry Section. She is a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association and has served as APRS Basic Sciences Chair and Education Committee Chair. Dr. Zavod also participates as an AFPE grant reviewer and as an ACPE Accreditation Site Team member. She is an author in several editions of Foye's Principles of Medicinal Chemistry, APhA’s Nutrition in Pharmacy Practice, and Gibaldi’s Drug Delivery Systems. She co-wrote two ASHP publications: Basic Concepts in Medicinal Chemistry (3 editions) and Self-Assessment in Medicinal Chemistry with Dr. Marc Harrold. She was the founding editor-in-chief of the AAPS Introductions to Pharmaceutical Sciences book series. She earned her M.S. and PhD. in medicinal chemistry from the University of Kansas and completed a post-doc in organic chemistry at Indiana University.

Jon Sprague, Ph.D., director of science and research for the Ohio Attorney General and director, Ohio Attorney General’s Center for the Future of Forensic Science at Bowling Green State University

Dr. Sprague will lead a breakout session on grant writing.

Dr.  Sprague is the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Eminent Scholar at Bowling Green State University and the Director of Science and Research for the Ohio Attorney General.  Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office and BGSU, Dr. Sprague was the University Director of Academic Research and Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the College of Pharmacy at Ferris State University. Prior to that, he served as dean and professor of pharmacology at the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University. His research and teaching interests include the neurobiology of addiction and the pharmacology and toxicology of drugs of abuse. Dr. Sprague has over 100 peer-reviewed publications in these topic areas. Dr. Sprague was also instrumental in writing the synthetic drug laws for the State of Ohio. These laws have focused on the synthetic cathinones, cannabinoids and opioids. He chairs the Scientific Committee on Opioid Prevention and Education (SCOPE) for the Attorney General’s office. To date, Dr. Sprague has obtained nearly $20 million dollars in external funding to support education and research.
