On Saturday, Sept. 27, the newest cohort of AHEC Scholars will be inducted across four regional centers: Akron Region Interprofessional, Cleveland Region Interprofessional, Canton Region and Eastern Ohio AHECs.

The day begins with a student orientation, followed by a workshop titled "Health is Wealth," focused on financial literacy for future healthcare professionals. Students will explore key financial terms and develop budgeting strategies to support their academic and career goals. Shaletha Mitchell, M.Ed., MCHES®, CRI-AHEC Director, will moderate the discussion.

New this year, the Northeast Ohio AHEC Program Office has received a $250 stipend to invite and host local legislators as part of the 2025 AHEC Works campaign, led by the National AHEC Organization. This initiative aims to raise awareness and support for the program at the policy level.

In a beloved annual tradition, 60 undergraduate scholars will receive their blue coats at Watanakunakorn Auditorium, symbolizing their commitment to a future in healthcare. This mirrors the white coat ceremonies held at NEOMED. Additionally, 60 second-year scholars will be honored in a pinning ceremony to recognize their leadership and continued service.

Since its launch in 2018, the Northeast Ohio AHEC Scholars Program has:

  • Supported 350+ students
  • Seen 34 scholars go on to NEOMED’s medical or pharmacy programs

Looking ahead, all scholars will reunite in April 2026 for a completion ceremony featuring:

  • Graduation stoles
  • Certificates of completion
  • Recognition for their two-year journey
