On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) at NEOMED hosted their biannual AHEC Scholar’s “Hot Topic” program, which featured a presentation on Naturopathic Medicine from Dr. Ted Suzelis, N.D. A licensed naturopathic doctor, Dr. Suzelis, spoke on the importance of holistic medicine and tailoring patient care to the individual. Dr. Suzelis has practiced for more than 20 years at the Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center in Boardman, Ohio. His presentation was followed by small group breakouts to consider how naturopathic medicine can inform treatments of common health issues, such as allergies, fertility, and obesity.
AHEC Scholars were asked to create a fictitious patient and to discuss conventional and alternative treatments for their patient. The newly developed program was met with high remarks and promoted the value of interprofessional education.
The next “Hot Topic” presentation will take place in spring 2023.
