Alexis Axtell receives ASHP Student Leadership Award
Fourth-year pharmacy student Alexis Axtell was recently awarded the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Student Leadership Award. The award recognizes students with an interest in pharmacy practice in health systems who have demonstrated leadership ability. It celebrates the contributions of students who represent the best attributes and accomplishments of ASHP student members.
Axtell got involved with the student chapter of ASHP at the start of her pharmacy school experience. She became president-elect in her second year, with the goal of becoming president. From then on, she got more involved in ASHP national meetings and student affairs.
When asked how she could increase awareness and understanding of the emerging roles, care delivery models and practice settings for pharmacists in the year 2030, Axtell suggested an ASHP YouTube channel to engage students in the post-global-pandemic world and document the evolution of pharmacy throughout this pivotal time. Through this channel, students would be able to share their internship, rotations and life experiences that have shaped their decision to pursue one pharmacy career pathway over another.
“I am very grateful to be recognized for this award,” she said. “Through ASHP and SSHP [Student Society of Health System Pharmacists], I have been given numerous amounts of opportunities to strengthen my leadership skills that I will take with me into my pharmacy career.”
Congratulations, Alexis!
