Alumni making a difference in rural medicine

College of Medicine alumni are putting their education into action by expanding access to healthcare in rural Ohio communities. Through rural family medicine practices and residency training, these graduates are helping address the unique health care needs of underserved communities while strengthening the future of patient care across the state. By choosing to practice and train in rural communities, these alumni are shining examples of NEOMED’s mission of working together to improve Ohio’s health and are making a meaningful impact on Ohioans, one community at a time.

Here are a few of our alumni working in rural medicine in Ohio:

  • Dr. Stephen Grossi (RMED '22) returned to his rural hometown for family medicine practice at Aultman Malvern Health Center
  • Dr. Jacob Brock (RMED '22) started a rural family medicine practice in Medina and created a Rural M3/4 NEOMED elective.
  • Dr. Ashley Vorhies (RMED '21) returned to the area (after residency in Michigan) to start her rural pain management practice in Alliance, Ohio.
  • Dr. Steve Swain ('02) recently started a rural family medicine residency and is open for a rural M3/4 elective in East Liverpool, Ohio.
