Building a foundation for responsible AI at NEOMED through Strategic Initiative Funding

In support of the advancement of the 2030 Strategic Plan, leadership has awarded Strategic Initiative Funding (SIF) to support AI Foundations Training Event, a proposal submitted by Lyn Haselton, Ph.D., M.P.A., Philip Turk, Ph.D., M.S., and Jennifer Reneker, Ph.D.

As artificial intelligence continues to influence healthcare education, research, operations and clinical practice, this initiative will help prepare the NEOMED community to engage with AI tools thoughtfully and responsibly.

Building a Foundation for AI at NEOMED

Scheduled for early Fall 2026, the AI Foundations Training Event aligns with recommendations from the AI Governance Committee and is supported by University leadership. The program will introduce core AI concepts, ethical considerations and real-world healthcare applications relevant to NEOMED faculty, staff, researchers and students.

The first half of the day will focus on foundational topics in healthcare AI, followed by applied case studies and hands-on learning in the context of research, education, administration and operations. All presenters will be NEOMED faculty and staff, including personnel in the Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) and subject-matter experts. Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit may be available.
