Campus Kudos for the week of May 11

Shout out to these recent Campus Kudos honorees!  

Elizabeth Backus, Strategy and Transformation, was recognized for practical assistance. “Liz helped us design a process and refine the form in Power Automate. She was fast, kind and supported us at every step along the way. Thank you, Liz!”

Andrea Coard, Maya Deeb, CV Garcia, Patti Pfeifer and Harmony Stanger, Office of the Provost, College of Graduate Studies, College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and COM, respectively, were recognized for assisting faculty with robing at Commencement. “Major kudos to the staff who volunteered in the faculty robing area at Commencement!  By ensuring faculty were welcomed, assisted and ready to shine, they played a vital role in the smooth flow of the processional and celebratory spirit of the day. Their willingness to volunteer in support of our NEOMED faculty is so appreciated!

Alisha Cobourn, College of Medicine, was recognized for efficiency. “Alisha has created a shared document between multiple departments that has streamlined the VSLO process for our M3 students looking for rotation sites. Pretty nice work for someone new on the job!”

Dale Hluch, Campus Operations, was recognized for lending a helping hand. “I had a visitor who needed transportation around campus and did not think to ask until 15 minutes before the visitor arrived. Dale dropped everything and helped make it happen seamlessly. I appreciate his willingness to help me in a last-minute request.”

Jeanne Hoban, Marketing and Communications, was recognized for communication skills. Jeanne made significant contributions to the success of the 2026 Commencement through her thoughtful coordination and strong communication skills. She played an important role in managing event logistics, helping ensure that key elements came together smoothly and efficiently. In addition to her behind-the-scenes work, Jeanne led the development of both pre- and post-commencement stories, capturing the spirit and significance of the event for the NEOMED community. Her ability to tell a compelling story, paired with her attention to detail, helped extend the impact of Commencement beyond the ceremony itself. Jeanne’s dedication, creativity and collaborative approach were instrumental in making the event both seamless and memorable, reflecting the excellence of NEOMED.”

Jared Slanina, Marketing and Communications, was recognized for collaboration. “Jared played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the 2026 Commencement ceremony. As a seasoned veteran of numerous NEOMED commencements, he brought a depth of institutional knowledge that proved invaluable throughout the planning and execution process. He worked closely with Student Services, offering steady guidance and hands-on support to newer team members. Jared contributed significantly to the development of the detailed program, coordinated signage, helped manage photography logistics, and attended to countless behind-the-scenes details that elevated the overall experience. His reliability, collaborative spirit and commitment to excellence had a meaningful impact on the event’s success. Jared’s contributions exemplify the level of dedication and professionalism this award is intended to recognize.”

Kim Stormer, Human Resources, was recognized for her positive attitude. “Kim is so friendly and kind to work with. She is genuine and always willing to help! We appreciate her support, time, and friendly disposition in every interaction!”

Tonya Strong-Charles, Marketing and Communications, was recognition for leadership.Tonya provided exceptional leadership as Chief Marketing Officer of Marketing and Communications, playing a critical role in the overall success of the 2026 Commencement ceremony. Through her strategic direction and steady guidance, she ensured that all marketing and communications efforts were aligned, polished and impactful. Tonya effectively led her team in delivering high-quality work across multiple areas, including event promotion, storytelling, photography and on-site communications. Under her leadership, team members such as Jared, Jeanne and others were empowered to contribute their expertise, resulting in a cohesive and well-executed experience. Her ability to oversee complex, fast-moving pieces while maintaining a clear vision and strong collaboration was instrumental in elevating Commencement. Tonya’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to excellence exemplify NEOMED leadership qualities.”

Whitney Vaughn, College of Medicine Student Affairs, was recognized for teamwork. “Whitney consistently goes above and beyond in her support of the COM Student Affairs Team. She plays a key role in assisting staff and coordinating numerous events, all while demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and a genuinely caring, supportive demeanor. Her willingness to step in and help wherever needed does not go unnoticed. Our office’s success depends greatly on the support she provides to both the team and our students. This spring semester, in particular, has been especially busy with a high volume of events and after-hours commitments, and it would not have been as successful without her dedication and hard work.”
