President John Langell shared updates with the campus community Monday, March 20, in Watanakunakorn Auditorium.

He noted Commencement will be held Saturday, May 6, and announced that the Commencement speaker will be NEOMED alumnus Donald A. Malone, Jr., M.D. (’84), president of Cleveland Clinic's Ohio Hospitals and Family Health Centers. He also noted that two honorary doctorate degrees will be awarded during the ceremony “to recognize key members of our community who've been aligned with the mission of the University.”

Appointment Reminders and Announcements

  • Marc Basson, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., University of North Dakota, has been appointed dean of the College of Medicine. He will join the University in the summer.
  • Provost Forrest Faison, M.D., FAAP, will begin April 1. A meet-and-greet event will be scheduled.
  • Julie Altman, Ph.D., was appointed permanent dean of the College of Graduate Studies.
  • Richard Kasmer, Pharm.D., J.D., has announced his retirement in September.
  • Janet Coon will serve as secretary of Board of Trustees and special assistant to the president with the departure of Michelle Mulhern.

Match Day(s)

  • The College of Pharmacy Class of 2023 has a match rate above 80% for PGY-1 residencies. In addition, among those from last year’s graduating class who pursued residency, 90% have matched for PGY-2.
  • In the College of Medicine, 100% of the students pursuing residency were matched. Three students opted to pursue a research year.

  • Bill to enact Ohio Higher Education Enhancement (SB83)
  • State budget negotiations are underway
