Celebrating 50 years of Creating Transformational Leaders

The past, present and future of NEOMED all met as the University celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding, while kicking off a celebration of 50 years of creating transformational leaders.

More than 200 guests celebrated the milestone on Nov. 15, as students, faculty and staff mingled with former employees and other distinguished guests who played a pivotal role in the University’s founding and growth over the past five decades.

One of those esteemed guests included Dorothy Jones, who sold her family farm for the NEOMED campus to be built. Joseph Zarconi, M.D., professor of internal medicine, spoke about meeting Dorothy during a groundbreaking ceremony he attended as a member of NEOMED’s first class. Dr. Zarconi was one of 42 members of the 1981 graduating class, who were the first to earn degrees from the University.

President Langell also spoke to the guests, offering praise for many individuals and groups who have been instrumental in NEOMED’s growth and success over the years.

“For now, I just want to salute the entire NEOMED community for a job well done,” Dr. Langell said. “Thank you for being here. Thank you for all that you have done. And thank you for joining us as we embark on the next 50 years of collaborating as community to create transformative leaders and improve health through education, discovery and service.”
