Celebrating College of Pharmacy Matches

Each year fourth-year pharmacy students who opt to pursue postgraduate training are matched with institutions across the county. On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, the first-round results of pharmacy residency match were released.

The College of Pharmacy is proud to announce that the Class of 2024 had an 82.8% (plus two fellows) PGY-1 match rate in the first round, and our alumni had an 88.9% PGY-2 match rate! According to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the national average this year is 74.2%.

The residency training provides students access to more advanced clinical employment opportunities. Students in the first round matched in residencies at University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, Summa Health, Mercy Health and more.

A second match round will take place in April for those students who didn't match in the first round or decided later that they wanted to pursue residency training.

Pharmacy residency training can last one to two years, depending on the area of specialization. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Residency Match is a highly competitive and well-respected process that connects pharmacy students with available postgraduate training programs.

Congratulations to the students who matched in the first round of the ASHP Match!

Look for more information in The Pulse following the second match round.
