I highly recommend Hidden Figures. It’s a great movie about the contribution of Black women mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. The movie stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe and Kevin Costner.
The Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory was located in Hampton, Virginia, which meant these women were segregated from their white counterparts due to Virginia’s Jim Crow laws. Yet they overcame many challenges and helped America win the space race with the old Soviet Union.
It’s a really great movie!
