College of Medicine launches badging program

The College of Medicine is now offering a pioneer program that awards badges to recognize and celebrate medicine students who demonstrate exceptional initiative by acquiring extracurricular, specialized knowledge and skills in areas of focus.

The program allows students to shape their medical education in line with their passions and career goals. By engaging in this program, students can enhance their professional development and set themselves apart as a versatile and distinguished leader.

Two learning communities will award the badges.

  • The Health Equity and Advocacy Leadership Learning Community will help students develop competency in serving diverse rural, urban and underserved populations. The primary contact is Michael Appleman, M.A.Ed.
  • The Research and Scholarship Learning Community will instill the process of critical thinking and reinforcement of the pathophysiological basis of disease. Primary contact: William Chillian, Ph.D., and faculty in the Integrative Medical Sciences Department.

Badges are offered in four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Students will progress to new levels as they earn more points through their skill, knowledge and engagement.

You can explore one or both learning communities and begin to earn badges. If you are interested in the rural medicine, social justice or urban primary care practice opportunities, review this handbook and write to HEALbadges@neomed.edu. If you are interested in the research and scholarship opportunity, write to Dr. Chilian at wchilian@neomed.edu or talk with any faculty member in our Integrative Medical Sciences Department.
