College of Pharmacy pinning ceremony marks students’ transition to practice
Congratulations to the third-year students who received their College of Pharmacy lapel pins during the P3 Pinning Ceremony held on Thursday, May 15.
The ceremony celebrated the culmination of the student’s academic achievements in their first three years of pharmacy school and the beginning of their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations.
In their fourth year, pharmacy students complete required clinical rotations, providing immersive patient care experiences under a pharmacist’s supervision, ranging from community pharmacy services to inpatient settings and other practice areas.
The faculty pinners included:
- Magdi Awad, Pharm.D., M.S.A., R.Ph., professor of pharmaceutical sciences
- Sara Dugan, Pharm.D., BCPP, BCPS, director of interprofessional development, director of curriculum and professor of pharmacy practice
- Chris Paxos, Pharm.D., BCPP, BCPS, BCGP, director of pharmacotherapy and professor of pharmacy practice
- Erik Wasowski, Pharm.D., BCPS, assistant professor of pharmacy practice.
The final step was the reciting of the Code of Ethics for Pharmacists, led by Lucas Everly, Pharm.D., BCPS, director of experiential education and association professor of pharmacy practice.
The ceremony concluded with wise words from the dean of the College of Pharmacy, Katherine Tromp, Pharm.D.: “NEOMED and your preceptors will guide you as you develop the highest moral and ethical standards that are essential to and demanded by the pharmacy profession. Less than a year from now at your graduation ceremony, we will be celebrating your transformation from a student to an outstanding pharmacist because of the knowledge you acquired during your didactic and advanced pharmacy practice experiences. We are all very proud of you and wish you continued success in the remainder of your academic endeavors.”
