College of Pharmacy welcomes Class of 2028 at White Coat Ceremony

The College of Pharmacy Class of 2028 wrapped up its first week at NEOMED with a major rite of passage – by officially being welcomed with their brand-new white coats.

A standing-room-only crowd in the NEW Center Ballroom greeted the new class of 65 students, as they donned their NEOMED white coats for the first time. The White Coat Ceremony capped the first week of orientation for the students, as they acclimate to their new lives as pharmacy students.

“Today’s ceremony provides an opportunity for first-year pharmacy students to reaffirm their commitment to the profession of pharmacy,” said Katherine Tromp, Pharm.D., dean of the College of Pharmacy. “It also provides an opportunity for the College to reaffirm our commitment to providing you with a quality education that will start you on your path to becoming transformational leaders in the pharmacy profession.”

“You are entering a profession that offers you great possibilities in a wide variety of settings,” Dr. Tromp continued. “From patient care to industry – you each will discover your own unique path in the pharmacy profession, and that journey starts today.”

The first-year students had their coats placed on them by second-year pharmacy students — Sarah Crawford, Dale McGoogan, Hannah Mordarski and Maria Newlon — who were selected by their classmates to represent the class.

Students also heard from keynote speaker Lindsay Amerine, Pharm.D., chief pharmacy officer of the Cleveland Clinic, and Tiffany Rentsch, Pharm.D. (’17), who advised the students to make the most of the experience, and to always remember why they are entering the profession – to serve the patient and always put patients' best interests first.
