Community Impact through Sports

Michael Wright continues to impact the community through two nonprofits that focus on health and wellness through sports - soccer and basketball.

Early spring, his U13, U15, and high school boys won the inaugural Pro Football Hall of Fame indoor soccer league.

“I have been coaching these girls since they were under 10 years old, and they have put in so much time and dedication to being standout community members, student athletes, and team. Our high school program is in its first year and we are enjoying early success,” Wright said.

Additionally, Wright also sits on the board for Guys and Girls Community Partnership, which focuses on underserved communities in Akron. Through this nonprofit, Wright is working with two of his Malone University football teammates to put on the fifth Hoop for Coop event.

This event is a men’s health fair that is coupled with a basketball tournament where every participant receives a health screening. Besides basketball, the event focuses on community health, fatherhood initiatives, health and wellness for the Akron area.

“Hoops for Coop is an amazing event that focuses on community health and engagement, not only for adults but for kids in the area. I am humbled to be given this opportunity to work with close friends to have a positive impact on the community.”
