Congratulating Steven Schmidt, Ph.D., on His Retirement

Nearly 100 faculty, staff, students, trustees and friends gathered for a reception June 9 to congratulate Steven Schmidt, Ph.D., dean of Graduate Studies and vice president of research, on his retirement.

Again.

As Richard B. McQueen, chair of the Board of Trustees, pointed out, Dr. Schmidt has “tried and failed to retire already.”

Dr. Schmidt began his NEOMED journey in 1980, when he was asked to teach a course in endocrinology. “I thought it would be a one-year gig,” he told the crowd of well-wishers. “I taught that course for a decade.”

In 2008, he gave up a faculty position to join the Board of Trustees, of which he was a member until 2012. Following his board service, he rejoined the faculty and administration at NEOMED.

While he has retired from his administrative positions, Dr. Schmidt will continue to teach a class in the Master of Leadership in Health Systems Sciences.
