Congratulations to Dr. Elisabeth H. Young on her Retirement

Dear NEOMED Community:

Dr. Lisa Young in a white coat, standing outdoors. After serving more than 30 years in key roles to help NEOMED create transformational leaders, Elisabeth H. Young, M.D. (’85), dean of the College of Medicine and vice president for health affairs, will retire from her employment with Northeast Ohio Medical University. An active faculty member since 1990, Dr. Young has also served in multiple leadership positions, including those in administration, curriculum development and innovation, teaching, service, and strategy.

As a graduate of NEOMED’s fifth class, Dr. Young was among the “young geniuses” reflecting NEOMED’s early position of developing doctors who learn in Ohio and remain here to practice in its medically underserved areas.

Training in internal medicine, rheumatology, and hospice and palliative care, and becoming a faculty member in internal medicine, added to Dr. Young’s foundation. And while spending more than 20 years providing patient care in health care settings across Northeast Ohio, she also served in medical education Ieadership roles at Mercy Health Youngstown and St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, which prepared her well to take on several huge initiatives, ultimately as dean of the College of Medicine at NEOMED.

From positioning the College for growth to growing student and staff diversity and providing leadership for a successful LCME accreditation process, Dr. Young exhibited both the vision and the transformational leadership necessary to move forward and to ensure the University is well-positioned to be even better than we are.

We thank her for her many years of service to the College and University and congratulate her on her retirement.

As we prepare for a search and transition to new College leadership, we are fortunate to have Eugene Mowad, M.D., who currently serves as vice dean, College of Medicine. Effective immediately, Dr. Mowad will serve as interim dean of the College of Medicine.

A national search to fill the position permanently will be announced in the near future.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Young and please welcome, Dr. Eugene Mowad to his new role.

Sincerely,

John T. Langell
President
