During Eating Disorder Awareness Week, Zoom seminar will discuss body positivity on college campuses
Identifying an eating disorder in young people can be challenging. The statistics from the 2022-23 Data Report from the Healthy Minds Study (Eisenberg, et al., 2023) reveal that 14% of college students would screen positive to likely have an eating disorder, and the report also showed that 5% had previously been diagnosed with an eating disorder by a health professional.
In conjunction with Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2024, which begins today, the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental (OPCSMH) health will host a webinar to educate the public about the realities of eating disorders. The annual campaign encourages sharing resources and provides hope, support and visibility to individuals and loved ones affected by eating disorders.
Join the OPCSMH on Thursday, Feb. 29 from noon to 1 p.m. to hear eating disorder expert and owner of Kate Adkins Therapy, Ltd., Kate Adkins, Ph.D., MFT-S, LPCC-S. Kate will speak on how eating disorders can present in students on college campuses, as well as how to identify resources for eating disorders and body image treatment across campuses.
Registration is currently open. CEUs will be available for counselors, social workers, psychologists, and Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals.
