Eastern Ohio Area Health Education Center (AHEC) received the National Center Award for Excellence for the AHEC Scholars Program at the 2023 National AHEC Organization Biennial Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah, June 27-30, 2023.
Eastern Ohio AHEC is one of the four centers in the Northeast Ohio Regional AHEC Program, located in NEOMED's Department of Family and Community Medicine . The Eastern Ohio center serves Ashtabula, Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
Eastern Ohio AHEC was selected for recognition based on developing avenues for the outstanding delivery of the AHEC Scholars Program for interprofessional students to participate in the Interprofessional Multidisciplinary Patient-Centered Academic Collaboration Training (IMPACT) Initiative.
Center Director Maureen Drummond provides highly engaging programming through the AHEC Scholars Program for underserved students to enhance their undergraduate education for when they matriculate into the health care workforce in their communities.
