Faculty and Staff Recognized for Service and Achievements

More than 60 employees were honored during the faculty and staff recognition program on Friday, March 7. Among them were faculty and staff who were recognized for years of service, ranging from five to 35, as well as several special awards.

Special Awards

OLSON/BLAIR AWARD FOR ADMINISTRATIVE EXCELLENCE

The award is given in recognition of outstanding administrative leadership through demonstrated initiative and innovative techniques, including the ability to motivate and supervise, make critical judgments and contribute to the betterment of NEOMED.

Recipient: Rebecca Hayes, executive director, OSRP, Research and Sponsored Programs

MARY JANE KELLY AWARD FOR SERVICE EXCELLENCE:

This award was established in honor of Mary Jane Kelly, one of the first employees of the institution, who served as assistant to the vice provost for administration and public affairs. This award is presented to a staff member who demonstrates an exemplary work ethic and takes the appropriate initiative while maintaining a strong service-oriented attitude.

Recipient: Sharon Usip, senior laboratory coordinator, Biomedical Sciences

Recipient: Jesse Zampedro, assistant director, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety

GLENN A. SALTZMAN COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD:

This award was established by Dr. Glenn Saltzman who retired in 1996 after 20 years of service in the Department of Behavioral Sciences as a charter chairperson and the Division of Medical Sciences as a director. He and his wife, Ruth, created the award in memory of their son, Jon. The award annually recognizes an employee who has made contributions to the betterment of the community and service to fellow citizens.

Recipient: Lyndall Amann, administrative coordinator, Master of Public Health program

JUNIOR FACULTY AWARD:

This award honors exemplary performance by faculty appointed at NEOMED for at least two years but fewer than seven years. Nominees must have made noteworthy contributions within teaching, research and service.

Recipient: Stacey L. Barrenger, Ph.D., assistant professor of Psychiatry

LIEBELT-WHEELER AWARD FOR FACULTY EXCELLENCE:

This award honors a faculty member who demonstrates exemplary performance in teaching, service, professional standing, and/or patient care.

Recipient: Marquita “Kit” Belen, M.D., M.A.S., FAAFP, associate professor, Family and Community Medicine

OUTSTANDING FACULTY RESEARCH AWARD

This award honors an outstanding researcher in their field with national and international recognition for excellence and productivity.

Recipient: Kristin R. Baughman, Ph.D., professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine

Recipient: Moses O. Oyewumi, B. Pharm., Ph.D., associate professor and chair, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
