Feng Dong named M1 Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Feng Dong, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences, who was named the College of Medicine's 2024-2025 M1 Teacher of the Year. Dr. Dong was honored during M2 orientation on Monday, July 28, in Watanakunakorn Auditorium.

Class of 2028 College of Medicine Student Curriculum Council representatives Jason Collins and Shivane Chawla recognized Dr. Dong for his excellence as a teacher, dedication as a mentor and love of his students.

“As both a course director and as an instructor, Dr. Dong has continuously gone out his way to demonstrate this care for his students,” noted Collins.

Chawla added, “His famous thorough-yet-accessible handouts and prep materials are universally acclaimed by his students. In the classroom, Dr. Dong truly embraces the ideals of engaged learning, ensuring that all students have opportunities to participate in the learning process by asking tough but relevant questions.”

Students have found Dr. Dong to be accessible outside the classroom as well, answering questions and providing individualized feedback and attention.

One nominating student shared, “After I struggled on the midterm and wanted to do better on the final, I reached out to Dr. Dong to ask if I could review the questions I missed. Before our meeting, he had already printed out the questions I got wrong and spent an hour and a half going through each one. I ended up doing the best I’ve ever done on a final at the end of his class.”

Another student noted, “Dr. Dong genuinely cares about us as students, not only that we understand the content to pass but to carry the knowledge with us throughout our careers in medicine. He truly believes in his students and sees the best in them!”

Congratulations, Dr. Dong!
