First-Year Students Compete for Title of Mr. NEOMED

From comedy and dance routines to original songs and juggling, the 2019 American Medical Women’s Association Mr. NEOMED pageant left no room for disappointment.

Cecil Ekechukwu, a College of Pharmacy student, along with College of Medicine students Jordan Hochstetler, Nicholas Osborne, Ryan Zubricky, Neal Kapoor, Zi-Yang “Ziggy” Liew, Kevin Garven and Haeun “Shane” Lee, showcased their best catwalk, talents and Q&A sessions at the pageant Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Each contestant received commentary from a panel of judges made up of Catherine Mattinson, Ph.D., assistant professor of anatomy and neurobiology; Harmony Stanger, assistant director of Student Affairs; and second-year College of Medicine students Kevin Adik and Stephen Grossi.

Strutting for a cause

While the Mr. NEOMED contest provided a great sense of comic relief, it also raised money for TownHall II, a center that provides services in addiction and sexual abuse treatment and prevention.

Overall, the event raised $800 for the Kent-based agency.
