From University administrator to University counsel: Amanda Filippi returns to higher education
Amanda R. Filippi’s path to the practice of law has been anything but conventional—and that breadth of experience is what she brings to her new role as associate general counsel at NEOMED.
Filippi’s career spanned higher education administration, human resources, the federal judiciary and appellate prosecution, giving her a perspective that extends beyond the law to the people, policies and practical considerations that shape complex organizations.
Her connection to higher education began well before she became an attorney. After earning a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Kent State University and an M.B.A. from The University of Akron, Filippi held a series of increasingly responsible positions at NEOMED, including roles in the Office of the President and Human Resources. She later earned her law degree, graduating magna cum laude from The University of Akron School of Law in 2022.
Filippi then entered the federal judiciary, serving as a law clerk to Judge Tiiara Patton of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Ohio and later to Judge John R. Adams of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Her work encompassed a broad range of civil and criminal matters, including employment law, contracts, disability law, trade secrets and bankruptcy.
Most recently, Filippi served as a senior assistant prosecuting attorney in the Appellate Division of the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, handling complex criminal and constitutional matters.
When Filippi is not working, she enjoys spending time outside with her two rescue dogs – Fitz and Eva. She also likes all the "comfy hobbies" – reading, puzzles and baking sourdough.
Joining the Office of General Counsel marks both a new chapter and a return to familiar ground for Filippi—bringing a career that began in higher education full circle. Please join me in welcoming Attorney Filippi back to NEOMED.
