Festival Celebrates NEOMED's Many Cultures

The annual Multicultural Fest, hosted by the Diversity Council and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, returned to campus April 12 with music, games, awards and lots of good food.

Guests could learn about and sample food from the Philippines, Guyana, Columbia and other nations at student-hosted tables.

DJ Kris Koch kept things lively with a steady stream of music from different cultures.

Students Momi Talukdar (P2), Nicholas Wagner (P2) and Sophia Santos (P1) entertained guests with songs and dance. (Check out Wagner’s rendition of Imagine.)

Andre Burton, vice president of Human Resources, announced the Excellence in Diversity awards for staff and faculty, respectively:

  • Victor Torres, M.A., director of global engagement, and
  • Jaclyn Boyle, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice and assistant dean of student success.

Torres’ wife, Rosanna Torres (above), presented a piece of original artwork, titled This Is You. This Is Us. to mark the occasion.

“This watercolor represents our wonderful inclusion and diversity efforts,” Burton noted, adding that the painting will be displayed in the Inclusivity Center.
