Get to Know Anesthesiology Interest Group

The Anesthesiology Interest Group aims to promote early exposure to the field for students in their preclinical years and professional development/networking opportunities for third- and fourth-year students. The organization hosts various speaker events and workshops in hopes of preparing members for lifelong careers in anesthesiology. The group also maintains a close liaison with the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Vivek Jasti, a second-year College of Medicine student and co-president of the Anesthesiology Interest Group, shares more about the student organization.

Tell us about the Anesthesiology Interest Group.

VJ: The goal of our organization is to provide hands-on experience for students interested in anesthesiology. Our group is here to offer a space for these students to discuss and prepare to become future anesthesiologists.

Of course, if current and incoming students are interested in anesthesiology, they should join! But, for those who are unsure about their career paths, we welcome them to join, too.

Tell us more about what type of activities your group is involved in.

VJ: AIG participates in the career fair, like most student organizations. This year we were also a part of the health fair and helped organize a fundraiser car wash during the summer. Later this academic year, we plan to host an intubation workshop and several anesthesiologist speakers.

What is your one goal for the 2018-2019 academic year?

VJ: Our mission is to revitalize AIG this year. We have set out to become a more active and involved group!
