Get to Know Anissa Strickland

Anissa Strickland is the senior administrative coordinator in the College of Pharmacy’s Office of Student Success. The office is a hub for professional and academic development, serving prospective and current students, and alumni in their academic development and career goals.

Strickland recently shared her story with The Pulse.

Are you originally from Northeast Ohio? If yes, what part? If no, where did you grow up?

Yes! I was born in Akron and although I moved a lot growing up, I lived in the Akron/Canton area for most of my life, except for 10 years when I lived in Southeastern Ohio.

What brought you to NEOMED?

I was excited to join NEOMED in November 2021. I was looking for a new opportunity in higher education, one that would let me use my skillset in a new area and work with a great team. I found that here!

What motivated you to work in higher education?

I had two fabulous mentors as an undergraduate who encouraged me to pursue a master’s degree in higher education administration. I was an economics major that didn’t want to work in corporate business, and higher education administration allowed me to do the type of work I enjoyed, while making a positive difference by helping students and their families navigate college.

What is your role with the Office of Student Success?

As the senior administrative coordinator, I assist our faculty by serving as a project manager, I coordinate student and staff programs and events, I am responsible for monitoring the budgets, and I manage social media accounts for the office.

How does the Office of Student Success help create transformational leaders?

I am impressed with the passion our staff puts into their work every day to make sure students have the opportunities and experiences they need to become leaders in health care. The genuine care and concern they show to students as individuals should be commended!

What are some things you like to do outside of work?

My family comes first, and I love spending time with my husband and two boys.  I also love to read, get creative, bake and be outside.
