Get to Know: Ashley Stitzel

In her role as program coordinator in the Office of Faculty Enrichment and Engagement, Ashley Stitzel assists with coordinating programs and helps to make sure the programs run smoothly, particularly the Research Track of the Fellowship in Academic Medicine (FAME) Program.

Before joining NEOMED in September 2022, Stitzel was a youth nutrition educator for the Summit County extension program of The Ohio State University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Bowling Green State University.

She recently shared a little bit about herself with The Pulse.

What made you decide to move from teaching kids about nutrition to helping educators in the health professions enhance their skills?

I was looking for a different experience, something to expand my professional experience. Plus, within the last two years, I also moved to Rootstown, so this [NEOMED] was an appealing place to work. I wanted to stay in the university setting and I had heard very positive things about working at NEOMED. It has been an exciting move from working with youths to health professionals!

What has the transition been like?

Every person that I've met has offered to help, and has made it feel very welcoming. And it's just been a positive change. There's a lot to learn, but it's been exciting. I've really enjoyed learning. Even in the first few weeks, I met and learned so much from so many interesting people from different backgrounds, which is awesome.

What do you do for fun?

I love to hike and walk. I also love to travel when I get the chance! Any time I get to spend with my husband and twin boys is my favorite thing!

When you get a chance to travel, where do you go?

Anywhere with a beach. Hilton Head is my favorite. I'm a beach person for sure.

What recipe do you make better than anyone else?

My blueberry crisp. I don’t cook much, but that’s what I always get compliments on. It’s my specialty!
