Get to know Hannah Haynie

Hannah Haynie joined the NEOMED team in June as the new manager for the Student-Run Free Clinic at NEOMED. She also provides support for the Department of Psychiatry. Haynie sat down with The Pulse to discuss her background, some of her favorite things to do in the area, and more!

What is your role at NEOMED?

Currently, I have a dual role at NEOMED. I was hired as manager of the Student-Run Free Clinic (SRFC) in June. I also assist Natalie Bonfine, Ph.D., and Stacey Barrenger, Ph.D., faculty members of the Department of Psychiatry, in research endeavors. This relationship is an extension of my doctoral studies at Kent State University. So far, I have had a lovely experience learning about the NEOMED community working in these two capacities!

What are some of the upcoming goals or priorities for the SRFC in the next year?

In the next year, I hope that our SRFC grant-writing efforts prove fruitful and that our patient numbers continue to increase. It would be fantastic if we could see patients on weekdays, in addition to Saturdays.

What made you want to become part of the NEOMED community?

I joined the NEOMED community with seven years of experience working at a federally qualified health center in Northeast Ohio. When I saw this opportunity with the SRFC, I thought it would be a great learning experience for me to enhance my current skillset and improve my grant-writing skills.

Are you originally from Northeast Ohio?

I grew up in Hubbard, Ohio.

What are some of your favorite places to visit in the area?

Since moving to the area, my dog, Fiona, and I have discovered a very nice walking path behind my apartment called Freedom Trail, which has been a delight. I have also enjoyed Kent's many coffee shops (and squirrels)!
