Get to Know: Julia Colecchi

As an integrated marketing strategist with the Office of Marketing and Communication, Julia Colecchi manages the University’s social media accounts and provides guidance for social media account managers across the organization. She is also part of the collaborative team that shares news and information about NEOMED across a variety of platforms.

Before joining NEOMED, Colecchi was director of development and marketing at United Way of Portage County in Ravenna. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University.

Colecchi recently sat down with the Pulse to share some information about herself.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up right here, in beautiful Rootstown, Ohio!

Where do you live now?

I currently live in Ravenna.

What led you to NEOMED?

When the opportunity to apply to the University came up, I jumped on it. I’d heard a lot of positive remarks about NEOMED as an employer and community. I believed the position was a constructive career move and gave me the chance to really focus on my strengths. I think it was a great opportunity for me to give back and help make a difference in the lives of future medical professionals. Working at a university is inspiring and fun!

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role?

I hope to maintain and optimize all of the NEOMED social media profiles. I want to highlight the positive and incredible things being accomplished at NEOMED. I want to post content that represents our brand and helps the University grow.

What book have you been recommending lately? Why?

I’ve been reading a lot of self-empowering/personal development books recently. I would recommend Get Out of Your Own Way by Mark Goulston and Philip Goldberg. It’s insightful and tells you exercises you can practice every day to overcome self-defeating behavior. It makes you aware of behaviors that you may not realize you possess. It helps you change the way you perceive problems and helps you learn how to overcome them.

What movie have you seen more than three times? What keeps you going back?

I could watch Grease over and over again. I’ve loved it since I was a little kid. I can sing every song and know a lot of the dance moves too. So if anyone wants to have a Grease dance party, let me know!

You’ve been invited a potluck. What’s your go-to dish? Why?

I ALWAYS bring dessert. I enjoy baking and trying new recipes!

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I was often told that I was great at arguing, so I was pretty set on becoming a lawyer when I was younger.

You’ve been handed a plane ticket to anywhere in the world. Where are you going? Why?

This question is so hard. My international bucket list is EXTENSIVE. I would probably go to New Zealand (especially if it was a free ticket but those flights are expensive, lol). New Zealand is known for being open-minded and welcoming to all visitors. I think it would be a great experience to learn more about the culture, food and history. Also BEACHES.

What’s the latest thing you crossed off your ‘bucket list’?

I recently completed the 75 Hard Challenge. It’s a transformative mental toughness program. During the program, you follow five tasks for 75 days straight. It helps build confidence, discipline and self-esteem.

What’s the latest hobby you’ve engaged in? Why?

Fitness is my main hobby. The gym is my happy place.
