NEOMED’s Kappa Psi Zeta Epsilon chapter allows pharmacy students to cross state lines and have an immediate bond with other Kappa Psi brothers — all while maintaining industry, fellowship and high ideals.

Shivali Singh, a third-year College of Pharmacy student and Kappa Psi president, shares more about the group.

YOU SEEM LIKE AN ORGANIZATION THAT LIKES TO GIVE BACK. TELL US MORE.

SS: Kappa Psi, as a chapter, works to ensure that our yearly goals provide our brothers the most benefit in both professional and personal growth. The projects we take on aid in advancing the profession of pharmacy and giving back to the community. One example of this is the national Reach Out and Read philanthropy initiative.

This type of outreach allows us to incorporate the ideas of our members to host events, such as reading to children and providing books to families. Our main goal to provide a place and purpose for each member to inspire lasting pride in Kappa Psi and in the profession of pharmacy.

WHAT TYPE OF EVENTS DOES KAPPA PSI PARTICIPATE IN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?

SS: Each year, Zeta Epsilon Chapter hosts a variety of events to engage different parts of the community. Our chapter is involved with helping sponsor the annual NEOMED golf outing, which raises money for student scholarships. Along with this, we have our own internal scholarship, which is annually awarded to a select member.

We volunteered with A Kid Again, a foundation which hosts children with life threating illnesses and their families at events that are accommodating for them. Our brothers spent time with these families at a Cleveland Indians Game and a gala to support the organization.

Members of Kappa Psi also make blankets by hand every year to donate to the local children’s hospitals.

WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS ON CAMPUS?

SS: Among the philanthropy and fundraising events that we hold, one foundational aspect that sets us apart from other organizations is that we have a ritual that connects us as brothers. The ability to cross state lines and have a bond that connects you immediately with another person makes this more than just an organization; it makes it a family. Joining Kappa Psi allows pharmacy students to become part of something bigger by opening up a gateway for leadership, service and networking. The friendships and connections that are made within Kappa Psi last a lifetime.
