Get to know Kevin Intihar

Kevin Intihar, Ed.D., joined NEOMED in February as assistant director in the Office of Student Services. The Pulse recently invited him to introduce himself.

What led you to NEOMED?

Between my position getting eliminated at my previous institution and earning my doctoral degree, I was determined to find personal and professional advancement in higher education. NEOMED seemed to be the perfect fit and I am eager to make an everlasting impact on the student experience!

What are your primary responsibilities in your role?

My primary responsibilities involve the oversight of student organizations, campus-wide activities, leadership and community service in the Office of Student Services. Additionally, my position focuses on creating and fostering a sense of belonging through orientation and other various events using assessment.

What is your education background?

I attended the University of Mount Union for my undergraduate education, earning a B.S. in Psychology. In addition, I earned an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration & Student Personnel from Kent State University and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Maryville University.

Are you originally from Northeast Ohio?

I grew up in Willoughby, about 20 minutes east of Cleveland. I live in Alliance now.

Tell me about your family. Any pets?

My parents reside in Willoughby and have been together for 41 years! I have a younger brother, Brad, who resides in Parma. I live with my girlfriend, Lena, and our mini zoo of two cats and two dogs. Zena is a 16- or 17-year-old tortie [tortoiseshell cat], Milo is a 7-year-old tabby/calico, Kodiak is a 1-year-old Akita, and Graham is a 6-month-old German Shepard.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

For hobbies, I greatly enjoy the outdoor activities, such as hiking, landscaping, playing volleyball, going to concerts, attending Major League Baseball games, etc. Additionally, I like to travel to new places and find hidden gems, although I’ve only been out of the country once to Edinburgh and London.

What’s a pet peeve that you would make illegal if you could?

Sleeping with socks on!!

If you could eat only one type of food for a year, what would you choose?

Seafood - Scallops, shrimp, crab, lobster… I love it all!

What has been your favorite Halloween costume?

In college, I went as Russell from the Disney Pixar movie Up.
