Get to know NEOMED - week of July 20
We probably all know someone like this: You say good morning when you pass in the hall, you chat while waiting for your coffee order and you see them at University events and programs. But you don’t really know who they are or what they do at NEOMED.
We’re here to help with the new feature, “Get to know NEOMED”! Each week we’ll share brief profiles of some new faces and some long-time staff.
This week we feature Trent Alberts, Peg Dramble and Dr. Vivian Von Gruenigen.
Trent Alberts
What is your role at NEOMED?
My role at NEOMED is Police Officer. My basic duties include traditional police duties such as providing for a safe environment of the NEOMED community and surrounding areas. Enforcement of federal, state and local laws, as well as University policies. Traffic enforcement, parking enforcement, welfare checks, business checks (in the NEW Center), as well as providing mutual aid to both the Portage County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol....Just to name a few duties.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The thing I love most about my job is my interaction with the students, faculty and staff, visitors, and the local community! After 20+ years of being a police officer, I love being in a day-to-day great atmosphere. I always prefer positive and proactive interactions as opposed to anything negative.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
A fun fact about myself is that for a hobby, I love railroading and model trains. I have a huge model train layout in my basement, that I enjoy mainly with my amazing and beautiful 3 year old daughter, Brynn! My truly favorite hobby is being a Girl-Dad!!
Peg Dramble
What is your role here at NEOMED?
I am the senior administrative coordinator for three departments: Family and Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry. I am responsible for managing the budgets for the three departments as well as the administrative coordinators and grants coordinator.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
As a lifelong Portage County resident I have watched NEOMED grow over the years and am proud to be part of such a prestigious medical university. I am obsessively organized and love working with numbers and people, so I really enjoy juggling the tasks for the three departments.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
My favorite day of the year is St. Patrick's Day, and I hope to travel to Ireland sooner rather than later!
Vivian von Gruenigen, M.D.
What is your role at NEOMED?
I am a physician and professor in both the College of Graduate Studies (COGS) and the College of Medicine (COM). I have been part of the NEOMED community since 1999 and currently serve as program director for the Master of Science in Health Systems Science (MSHSS) program. I teach systems thinking and leadership and bring extensive experience in healthcare leadership as a Certified Physician Executive, Lean Six Sigma practitioner, and holder of a master's degree in healthcare delivery.
What is the MSHSS program?
The Master of Science in Health Systems Science prepares future healthcare leaders to improve the quality, safety, efficiency and value of healthcare. Students learn how health systems work and develop the leadership, teamwork and systems-thinking skills needed to improve patient and population health while enhancing the experience of both patients and healthcare professionals. The program welcomes graduate students and an Early Assurance pathway for College of Medicine students.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Without question, the students. I enjoy their enthusiasm, curiosity and dedication, and it is incredibly rewarding to watch them develop into confident leaders and collaborative team members. I also value NEOMED's supportive and inclusive culture, where colleagues genuinely invest in one another's success.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I am a lifelong Girl Scout and remain actively involved in serving the Northeast Ohio community.
