The Office of Student Services’ newest administrative assistant is no rookie to higher education. After spending the last 14 years at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio, Tamra Caruthers joined NEOMED in January. Learn more about the higher education veteran.
What do you enjoy about working in higher education?
TC: I love the feel of working in an environment where everyone has a common goal — to support the students. I get the impression that here at NEOMED, everyone wants to provide a quality education — from the housekeepers all the way up to the president.
Tell us about your role as the Office of Student Services’ administrative assistant.
TC: A lot of what I do will be interfacing with the students, like the NEOMED Student Council. I've gotten a lot of emails on that so far. As an administrative assistant, I keep student records, help students keep track of budgets, events and activities, and also just try to help them maneuver through their education.
We want to know more about you. Do share!
TC: I'm from Homeworth, Ohio (Columbiana County) it's a blink and you miss it. It's pretty quiet and rural — just a two lane road and you might follow tractors or school buses. My husband and I just hit our 20th anniversary over the summer. We have two daughters — a senior and a sophomore.
Right now, my life revolves around my kids, who are highly involved in musical programs. They're in band, flag line, show choir and theater productions. We've got Annie coming up in February, so that's what we're eating, sleeping and breathing right now.
