Grand Casino is a success!

On Nov. 1, 2024, over 500 alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends gathered in the NEW Center for the NEOMED Grand Casino, honoring the 50th anniversary of NEOMED’s founding.

As guests arrived, they were greeted by President John Langell on the red carpet and invited to take a photo against a NEOMED Grand Casino backdrop. Following a cocktail reception, Mark Mosley, chair of the NEOMED Foundation Board, welcomed guests to the gathering and spoke about the impact that NEOMED has had on health care in Northeast Ohio and across the globe. He was followed by Rahul Kumar (M2), who spoke about the student experience, the NEOMED Free Clinic and Diwali. Dr. Langell then spoke to the bright future that NEOMED has ahead if it. Both Dr. Langell and Mr. Mosley welcomed Paul Bishop (board emeritus) and Jane Bishop to the stage to announce their gift of $100,000 to the Blue Fund in honor of Grand Casino and the 50th Anniversary.

Guests were then invited into Cook Alumni Hall and the Grand Ballroom to partake in various table games, including three-card poker, let-it-ride and slots. Roulette, craps and blackjack were the games of choice, however. Attendees used their winnings to place raffle tickets for over 25 prizes including, Cleveland Guardians tickets, gift baskets from Eddy Fruit Farm, artwork and more. The evening also featured a silent auction with the most popular items being two bourbon gift baskets, a Cleveland Cavaliers suite and a ride for two in the Goodyear Blimp. The evening was capped off by the announcement of the winner of a five-day stay in Maui, which was generously donated by Dr. Langell and Dr. Sara Whittingham. The winner is Nancy Flickinger, M.D. (’81).

In total, the evening raised over $250,000 for the Blue Fund, which supports student scholarships, academic program enhancements and research, as well as the most pressing needs of the University.
