Highlights from the Health Services Research symposium
The Health Services Research Focus Area (HSRFA) held a symposium at NEOMED on Oct. 8 in the NEW Center. The event was a chance for the research focus area to showcase their research and network with researchers outside of NEOMED.

Keynote speakers included Dr. Samudragupta Bora (above), the director of the Health Services Research Center at University Hospitals and Dr. Philip Turk (below), the director of NEOMED’s Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI).

Dr. Fayez Safadi (below), Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Director of the NEOvations Bench-to-Bedside Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, discussed the translational research taking place within the NEOvations program at NEOMED.

Dr. Natalie Bonfine, co-director of NEOMED’s HSRFA, moderated a panel discussion with principal investigators involved in statewide grant collaborations: The Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program, a collaboration of universities and community organizations across the state; the Clinical and Translational Sciences Collaborative of Northern Ohio, a collaboration of universities and healthcare systems in Northern Ohio; Cardi-OH, a cardiovascular collaboration between Ohio’s 7 medical schools; the Quality Improvement Hub, another collaboration between Ohio’s 7 medical schools; and the State of Ohio Adversity and Resilience (SOAR) study, a collaboration of 11 academic institutions and medical centers in Ohio, that is conducting mental health research in the state.
The day concluded with 10 short research snapshots of work being done by NEOMED faculty and students within the Health Services Research Focus Area. The research topics ranged from clinical studies being conducted at partner hospitals to community-engaged research projects.
