Highlights from the Oct. 17 Celebration of Health Professions Education

The College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and Master Teacher Guild hosted a joint Celebration of Health Professions Education event on Monday, October 17.

Larry D. Gruppen, Ph.D. (right), Professor of Learning Health Sciences and Director of the Master of Health Professions Education Program from the University of Michigan Medical School, started the day’s event with the plenary session, An Introduction to Doing Research in Health Professions Education.

The event then highlighted education innovation presentations of several NEOMED faculty, including Arthur Coulton, Ph.D. with M2 student, Sarah Vélez, Catherine (Katie) Mattinson, Ph.D. and Jesse Young, Ph.D., Alexander Hoffman, Pharm.D., M.Ed., BCPS, and Margaret (Margy) Sanders, M.A., L.S.W. 

Afternoon highlights

The afternoon continued with a diversity, equity, and inclusion workshop session, Anchoring Cultural Humility in Medical Education, presented by Yoleetah Ilodi, M.D., assistant dean of diversity (above left), and Iris Mirelez, M.Ed., assistant director of student diversity (above right) in the College of Medicine.  A digital poster presentation session followed with innovative teaching posters presented by Liz Fredrickson, Pharm.D., BCPS, Thomas Mike, M.D., and Mariquita (Kit) Belen, M.D.  

The event concluded in the early evening with college-specific breakout sessions tailored for the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Graduate Studies.
