Immersion Day kicks off Health & Well-being Coaching Certificate Program

Executive Education is developing new and innovative programs this year to meet the professional and educational needs of our clinical partners and community.

As a result, the Health & Well-being Coaching Certificate Program (HWCCP) enrolled its first cohort of 22 learners! On March 2, the HWCCP kicked off its first cohort with an Immersion Day event. Twenty-two University Hospitals employees gathered to learn about the field of health and wellness coaching and get to know each other. The learners participated in group discussions and team-building exercises. The cohort is excited and passionate about the program and adding to their skills and knowledge as a healthcare professional.

HWCCP prepares learners from various backgrounds with the foundational skills and knowledge to be a health and well-being coach. The curriculum includes theory and practice in behavior change, coaching psychology, motivational interviewing, and coaching techniques. Students must complete 16 weeks of academic work, including online learning and 50 practice sessions with clients. This course is accredited by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) and students who pass the program can apply for the NBHWC exam. More information on the NBHWC exam can be found here: www.nbhwc.org

A health and well-being coach is trained to ask the type of “open-ended” questions to help you connect with your inner motivations for change—the real drivers of your day-to-day behavior. Coaches work with patients and clients from all backgrounds and with different health conditions to improve lifestyle choices. Goal setting, motivational interviewing, positive psychology and active listening are some techniques and skills learned in the HWCCP.
