Improving information for consumers

Heather McEwen, M.L.I.S., M.S., associate professor of Family and Community Medicine and Pharmacy Practice, was recently featured in a WikiEdu blog showcasing the milestone 800,000 views of the health care entries she has enhanced on Wikipedia. The milestone has earned her the title “Wikipedian.”

WikiEdu invites scholars, scientists, archivists, librarians and other members of academic and cultural institutions to review articles within their areas of expertise on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and other open collaboration projects on the web.

“Quality information is important to patients and families,” McEwen noted in the blog. “Wikipedia articles are a resource patients can discuss with their health care team to improve patient outcomes.”
