Inspired to contribute: Mutasem Daineh

Mutasem Daineh did not expect to end up in Northeast Ohio. The Chicago native loved his hometown, and did not have any connection to Ohio. However, he read something from former interim dean of the Bitonte College of Dentistry, Frank Beck, D.D.S., that would change all of that.

“Dr. Beck’s powerful words about how much dentists were needed in Ohio really resonated with me,” said Daineh. “It was a very meaningful opportunity to contribute in a place where I would be needed.”

Daineh was not originally set on becoming a dentist, either. He graduated from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, with an undergraduate degree in biology, then worked various jobs before becoming a dental assistant. That experience made him consider a path to dental school, and in 2025, he became part of the inaugural class at the Bitonte College of Dentistry.

“Overall it was a fun year, and a great learning experience,” Daineh said of his first year at NEOMED. “It also helped that the faculty and administration were so open to feedback. They certainly encouraged it and would really listen and try to help.”

Daineh has also settled in well in Ohio, despite being completely unfamiliar with the area. He especially enjoys the trees and parks throughout the region, which are a sharp contrast to his urban hometown. He has even talked to his parents about possibly moving to Ohio.

“They get excited about seeing the different wildlife in this area,” he said. “They especially love visiting farms and asking questions about all of the animals they see.”

A specific highlight of Daineh’s first year in the Bitonte College of Dentistry was getting to meet Dr. Beck, who inspired him to come to NEOMED.

“Dr. Beck has such a positive attitude, and the passion he shows for improving oral care in this area is truly inspiring,” said Daineh.

Daineh is working towards opening his own practice in general dentistry once he earns his D.D.S. – with a strong possibility of serving a nearby community in Ohio.
