Invitation: Research Collaboration Event on Feb. 14

You are invited to attend a research collaboration event from 3-5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14, in Cook Alumni Hall, NEW Center.

As part of our partnership with Summa Health, we are working to strengthen our research impact through faculty collaboration. One of Summa’s major areas of clinical and academic focus is the neurosciences. Dr. Susana Bowling, medical director of the Summa Health Neurosciences Institute, is growing the program with a focus on dementia/Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s/movement disorders, stroke, and epilepsy.

Summa already has two neurologists on the NEOMED campus caring for patients several times per week. They are interested in growing that presence and possibly adding a neuro-focused physical therapy team onsite.

Summa plans for research and scholarship to be an integral part of the Institute.  NEOMED has expertise in many of Summa’s areas of interest across all our research focus areas. As part of strengthening our partnership we would like to promote research collaborations between Summa and NEOMED faculty. As a first step we are holding a research interest exchange meeting on Monday, Feb. 14, from 3-5 p.m. in Cook Alumni Hall, NEW Center. Dr. Bowling is planning to have several Summa neurology/neuroscience faculty attend the event.

The President’s Office is hosting the event and will be providing light refreshments. I would like to encourage all NEOMED research faculty to attend. Even if neurosciences is not where your research is focused, you may find an opportunity for collaboration.

To facilitate the exchange of information, I recommend each interested faculty member create a brief (maximum one-page) document summarizing your research interests, laboratory capabilities and expertise, contact information, current grant funding and select publications.  In addition, note if there are specific research opportunities you are interested in (patient access, clinical data, tissue samples, etc.).

Please send your R.S.V. P and research summary to Andrea Coard (acoard@neomed.edu) no later than Feb. 12. We will compile the information and provide it to the Summa team in advance of the meeting.

I look forward to joining you and learning more about your research.

John Langell
President
