Ironman documentary features Sara Whittingham

On Sept. 10 and Oct. 14, 2023, thousands of athletes from around the world crossed their finish lines in Nice, France, and Kona, Hawaii, respectively, for the VinFast Ironman World Championship.

Among them was NEOMED clinical faculty member Sara Whittingham, M.D., an anesthesiologist at Cleveland Clinic Marymount Hospital. Dr. Whittingham was among the athletes spotlighted in a 90-documentary chronicling the 2023 race.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease a few years ago, Dr. Whittingham raced to raise awareness of the disease and support for Parkinson’s disease research. That includes fundraising to support research at NEOMED like that conducted by Sheila Fleming, Ph.D., who is studying the effects of exercise on disease progression.
