Latino Medical Association Hosts Medical Spanish Workshop

On Monday, March 21, the Latino Medical Association (LMSA) hosted an in-person, lunchtime Medical Spanish Workshop in Olson Hall.

Attendees engaged in an interactive presentation that included general information and data about Hispanic and Latinx populations, observed a neurological exam in Spanish, received English-to-Spanish handouts related to basic medical phrases/terminology, and practiced the terminology in small groups.

The event was organized by first-year medical student and LMSA officer, Sofia Mesa. Anibelky Almanzar, a fourth-year NEOMED medical student and LMSA past co-president, presented and facilitated the event.

Almanzar, who identifies as a proud Latina of Dominican descent, has matched for her residency at MetroHealth in Cleveland, where she will be pioneering the track for vulnerable populations.

LMSA wishes to thank all of the participants who came to the Workshop.

Association members plan to host similar events in the future.
