Leadership change for Journal of Medical Sciences at NEOMED

The Journal of Medical Sciences at NEOMED (JMS) is excited to announce a leadership change. Second-year medicine students T.J. Cahill and Samantha Hardy will step up as co-presidents for the student-led publication.

The JMS was founded in 2020 by former president and editor-in-chief, Trinity Kronk, and faculty advisor, Dr. Fayez Safadi. Since then, it has published two volumes, with a third on the way, and the fourth opening for submission soon.

In doing so, it has enhanced the research sphere at NEOMED by allowing a space for students to act as reviewers and editors, in addition to providing a peer-reviewed publication platform for students and local affiliates.

The new presidents will be finalizing the implementation of the new Open Journal Systems software that will improve communication and efficiency of the journal. This, among other developments by the journal, has been made possible by the generous support of donors, including JMS founding benefactors Ian Oppenheim and Marta Willinger, and the University. The journal will be open for new submissions later this semester using this new platform.

The new presidents are hoping that they can continue the legacy of the journal and draw on past experiences for continuing leadership.

  • T.J. spent a year as a primary care scribe at Oak Street Health, and at NEOMED helped to run the 2023 Research Symposium with the Committee for Student Clinical Research.
  • Samantha has a strong background in research from her undergraduate work in 3D bioprinting at Johns Hopkins University and her graduate thesis in drug development at Ohio State University.
  • Both students served in vice presidential roles for the JMS in 2023.
