Lessons from a butterfly

This was shared via the Aultman Today, and I thought the students and faculty/staff at NEOMED could benefit from it as well.

From Our Aultman Hospital Chaplains

Some fascinating facts about butterflies:

  • Butterflies range in size from tiny (1/8 inch) to huge (almost 12 inches).
  • There are about 17,500 different species of butterflies.
  • Butterfly wings are transparent. Their color really comes from other colors reflecting through their wings.
  • Butterflies cannot fly when temperatures are under 55 degrees.
  • Butterflies rest when it rains because it can damage their wings.
  • The lifespan of a butterfly varies, but most live for only a few weeks.

And now, let’s look at some lessons we have learned from butterflies:

  • Just like there are many butterfly species and sizes, each of us is unique.
  • We have the opportunity each day to reflect the beauty around us.
  • Life is short, so live it to the fullest, enjoying the colorful world as we fly high.
  • It’s okay to rest during the storms or chilly times of life. You’ll fly again once it’s over.
