CBS Cleveland (WOIO) spotlights NEOMED's efforts in Nepal

NEOMED President John Langell, M.D., joined WOIO CBS Cleveland Channel 19 host Brian Duffy on 19 Newsmakers to discuss the University's relief efforts in Nepal and programs of the University.

NEOMED's efforts in Nepal have grown out of the Global Health and Innovation program, which provides opportunities for students to help improve healthcare in low-resourced areas. The program, led by Bernhard Fassl, M.D., is scheduled to send about 15 students in spring, said Dr. Langell. NEOMED has partnered with Crocker Catalyst Foundation and other donors who have contributed over $300,000 to support the University's relief efforts.

Dr. Fassl will travel to Nepal later this month with a medical team of professionals. Students will join later.

"The first thing we need to do is make sure they are safe before they go and help other people be safe," noted Dr. Langell in the interview.

NEOMED's efforts will be focused on medical infrastructure and care, and clean water. "Those are two big focal areas for us," Dr. Langell shared.

Dr. Langell also shared information on programs underway through NEOMED's partnership with University Hospitals and other NEOMED initiatives.
