Student Trustee soars within the American College of Physicians

Omer Ashruf (M3), Student Trustee at NEOMED, has been selected to chair the Council of Student Members within the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP). He will work with students and internal medicine leaders from all of the medical colleges across Ohio to collaborate on advancing ACP's goals, enhancing student membership and promoting internal medicine.

He has also represented NEOMED at the national level. After an award-winning presentation of his research at the Ohio ACP conference in the fall, Ashruf went on to present and receive first-place poster winner in the High Value Care Category. His poster was also selected to be in the 'Top 5' overall posters nationally.

He was the first author on a project titled “Epidemiology, Risk Factors and Practice Points of Acute Kidney Injury in Pediatric Hematopoeitc Stem Cell Transplant Patients" alongside NEOMED co-authors Zara Orozco, Imad Haq, Dr. Rupesh Raina and others.

Of note, Maham Alvi, another rising M3 at NEOMED, also presented her poster "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Cardiovascular Research and Medicine: A Systematic Review" at the national conference as well.

Congratulations Omer, and thanks for representing NEOMED at the state and national levels.
