Medical student honored in commissioning ceremony

Congratulations to first-year medical student Subi Simmons, who was honored with a commissioning ceremony in the Purple Star Military Lounge on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026. Simmons is a member of the United States Navy.

LCDR Bill Driver administered the military oath to Simmons, who was joined by her parents and recruiter Chief Joseph Anderson.

Several of Simmons’ M1 classmates attended the ceremony to show their support, as did Provost Forrest Faison, retired vice admiral and 38th Surgeon General of the Navy, and Student Trustee Guido Shero, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

"This feels like the beginning of something meaningful,” shared Simmons. “I’m grateful for the community that supported me along the way."
