Meet Kacey Pagano

As the Northeast Ohio Medical University Class of 2027 starts their journey, we wanted to learn more about students from this incoming group.

We invited them to share their stories. Here is one response:

Meet Kacey Pagano, who begins her first year in the College of Medicine.

Hometown: North Royalton, Ohio

Previous institution: Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Denison University

Q: Why did you choose NEOMED?

A: I chose NEOMED because I grew up in Northeast Ohio, and I would love to continue to live in and serve these communities in the future. NEOMED seems to emphasize the humanity and relationships that are built by medicine, and I believe this to be an important and unique philosophy that stood out to me in my medical school search.

Q. What specific career do you hope to pursue? What inspired your choice?

A. I am honestly really open to exploring all the medical specialties during my time at NEOMED. Some topics that interest me are neurology, immunology, pathology and genetics. I am looking forward to seeing more of the day-to-day glimpses of each specialty so that I can home in more on my interests.

Q. What book or movie are you currently recommending to friends? Why?

A. A book that I highly recommend to everyone, but especially medical students, is When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. It is an important book about self-discovery and mortality in the context of a medical professional. I feel that it is an especially important read for medical students to educate them on identity and what it means to live a good life, even if everything you have worked so hard for is stripped away.

New students are welcome to introduce themselves in The Pulse. Email thepulse@neomed.edu for a list of prompts. Or find them on the Class of 2027 Facebook group page!
